Design Process

This season was spent in New Hampshire from June through early September on the grounds of the Colby Sawyer campus. Underneath a tent we built a theatre including decking, truss for lighting and audio equipment, and a separate front of house platform as our control booth.

The audio system was tuned to be flexible for a wide array of music as we performed Shining On: Broadway and the Barn, A Grand Night for Singing, Anything Goes - In Concert, And the World Goes Round in rotating repertory for two months. With the band being split between opposite sides of the stage, multiple lines were run to instrumentalists to accommodate for changes between shows and custom monitor mixes as shows alternated throughout the season.

We closed our season with a two week run of Always, Patsy Cline. For this show, the system was restructured slightly to allow for a more period feel for the piece. The aural quality matching the sound of Patsy’s original performances while retaining the clarity of modern sound reproduction was a major focus. It was accomplished through a mixture of practical microphones and varying styles of reverb. This show featured the band onstage with individual amps and background vocals in multiple songs.
