Design Process
Love in Hate Nation was developed as a new work at Penn State and had its first performances as a staged reading in February of 2018. Now playing at the Two River Theatre, it was wonderful to help develop this new musical.
This design was focused on grounding the story when we changed locations, as there was not a large scenic transformation to inform the audience. This included creating a fire effect, an outdoor soundscape, and various percussive pipe effects and knocks.
This transition was created in the space through use of various area speakers and subwoofers underneath seating units to source the sound of a molotov cocktail breaking and the building catching on fire. Timed with lighting, the fire effects then faded and helped us transition into the final outdoor scene with various atmospherics through area speakers hidden around the space.
This show has now received its first professional production at Two River Theatre in November 2019.
