Design Process
Phillip Fazio, our director, stated at the beginning of the process that this was a comedy of people finding their correct partners. This mix-and-match romance is one that whirls and waltzes to the final beat.
My concept for this production was to make the design as seamless and invisible as possible. To achieve this with our 16 piece orchestra and cast of 18, I had a true LCR band system for a wide stereo image and a Left-Right vocal system. We also used a Dayton Audio exciter fed by a Shure Wireless IEM pack to create the illusion of an actor playing a cello live onstage, actually being played by our orchestra cellist, Antonietta Rodriguez, in a remote cello booth.
The gallery below features production photos as well as the cue list, Array Calc drawings for the band and vocal systems, console paperwork, and signal flow drawings created in Omnigraffle.
